Olson, Jessica - Materials Study Exercise (Wood and Plastic)

 Wood:

It can burn, and become singed. Taking colour, and highlighting pattern.
It can be boiled, softening the fibers so that its normally stiff quality can allow for more extreme bending.
It is rigid and strong, but it can splinter. The splinters are clusters of fiber that hold it together, but the rigidness can keep it from falling over in the right circumstances.

Plastic:

Plastic is not fibrous, so it can be shiny and smooth

Plastic melts easily, so it can be molded and sticky

Plastic is soft, so it is pliable and bendy when it is put into thin strips, allowing it to be woven, croquet, or in this case, knit.
